Block Graft

Pinned Bone Block graft for more difficult sites


When the bone is thin at the front of the mouth, a localised particulate bone graft is insufficient for dental implant placement. In this scenario, a very careful surgical procedure is carried out where a small block of bone is harvested from the back of the mouth (see second photo on the left).

This plate of bone is then screwed onto the thin part of bone and pinned to the jaw. Over 4 months this bone fragment fuses, and the now plumper bone site can be used for implant placement. In a simultaneous procedure, the pins are removed, and a dental implant is placed to complete the procedure.
