Mouth Preparation

Antwerp Implant Dentistry will thoroughly prepare your mouth for Dental Implant Therapy !

Before commencing dental implant therapy, your implant surgeon needs to prepare your mouth by addressing several matters :

It goes without saying that all sources of infection around the teeth and gums must be corrected before putting in dental implants, therefore gum disease and decay needs to be corrected first. Without this, it is possible for “focal infection” to infect dental implants  and these will loosen.

Sometimes, however, the bite is also “worn out”. It is not advisable to place implants in this situation because the dental implants will suffer high bite forces, and this is also a factor that results in fracture of the implant crown or loosening of dental implants. Implants surgeons will carry out a thorough mouth preparation involving several other teeth to ensure that your dental implants are placed in the ideal environment to last very long time.

Here is an example of a bite that is worn out that needs thorough preparation before dental implants are considered. You can read how this case was completed in our case studies section.

Your implant surgeon will  therefore  put together a “mouth preparation plan” before the implant treatment plan. This can be as short as 2 months, when there is minimal preparation but may take as long as one year for complex bite problems  as in the case above.

You can count on Antwerp dentistry clinicians to not provide quick fixes, but to produce a thorough mouth plan to protect your dental implant investment.
